ORF Kärnten: NO LIDO ON THE WEST BANK OF LAKE WEISSENSEE
ORF Kärnten: NO LIDO ON THE WEST BANK OF LAKE WEISSENSEE
Our official statement in addition to today’s ORF report:
Back in 1959, our grandfather Karl welcomed the first bathers to the lido. We look back proudly on the past decades in which our family business has been able to offer numerous guests the opportunity to swim in the unique Weißensee year after year.
In the fall of 2021, the go-ahead was given for the planning of a contemporary renovation to secure the now outdated substance of the main building for future generations. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved and those responsible for spatial planning in the state of Carinthia, who have supported and constructively enriched our project from the very beginning.
From the point of view of the lido, the planned conversion would not only have been a necessary and economically reasonable investment, but also one that would have gone beyond our operational interests, preserving the existing building fabric and taking up as little additional space as possible.
Ultimately, after one and a half years of planning and positive opinions from all the other bodies involved (Local Heritage Commission, Carinthian Department of Regional Planning, Technical Building Service), it was not possible to pursue our project any further, as the Weissensee municipal council voted by a narrow majority against drawing up a partial development plan necessary for this specific conversion.
Under these conditions, we will unfortunately not be able to provide modern catering and other infrastructure for our public lido in the future. Despite our long and beautiful history, we are therefore sad to announce that our lido will no longer be open to the public with immediate effect. We very much regret having to take this path.
We would like to thank all our guests who have made our lido what it was.
